Spike Stories

Which Version Is Right for Your Child?

Spike’s adventures come in two versions of the same story, so your child can enjoy the adventure in the way that suits them best and grow in confidence as their reading skills develop.

Here’s a simple guide to help you choose:

Rhyming Stories

Learn to Read Stories

  • Rich rhyme and rhythm that make stories fun and memorable

  • Perfect for reading aloud together

  • Encourages imagination, curiosity, and engagement

  • Slightly more advanced language and storytelling

  • Ideal for younger children or family reading time

Choose this version if:
You want to enjoy the story together, build a love of books, or introduce your child to Spike’s adventures through fun and playful storytelling.

The books can be purchased as a Paperback copy or as an E-Book.

Best for: Developing reading skills and building confidence

  • Controlled vocabulary in the first five books

  • 100 Sight words learned through picture association and then used to construct the sequential story

  • Ensures reading success because, within the first five books, there are no unfamiliar words

  • Additional Word Learning and Comprehension workbook for Books 1 - 5

  • Storyline is the same as the Rhyming Stories

Choose this version if:
You want to introduce your child to the skills of reading. The books can be used with older children or young adults who are starting on their reading journey.

The books can be purchased as a Paperback copy or as an E-Book.

Still Not Sure?

Many families choose to start with the Rhyming Stories to enjoy the adventure together, then move to the Learn to Read version as their child becomes more confident.

Because the stories are the same, children already know what happens next — which makes reading feel easier, more familiar, and more fun.
